The lads have gone. Get straight in there. Leave the kitchen till later – it’s not that important right now, just pots and pans and not much else. Finish off in those other first two rooms first – the living-room beside the kitchen and the parlour on the far side.

Fabrics folded. Furniture stacked as best I can – charity’s pickup-van will come for it at the end of the week. If the house is still here, of course.
