Levellers and activists

Back to the Agreement thing. Turns out there were quite a few drafts, dated from 1647 to 1649, written by the ‘activists’ in the New Model Army. Most of these so-called ‘Levellers’ were ordinary soldiers or junior officers in the Army, people such as John Wildman, John Lilburne, Richard Overton and a bunch of others – I haven’t dug up all of their biographies yet, and it looks like I may need to do just that. And looks like I need to know a lot more about what I’d guess must be key events – the Putney Debates, the Whitehall Debates, all sorts of stuff I’d never heard of before. Not in the tiny bit we did on this in school history-classes all those years ago, anyway.

A huge lot of reading to make any sense of this, but I’m way too busy at work right now to do it. Do what I can, I guess?
