Next item in the Agreement was that no army officer, treasurer or lawyer could be a Member of Parliament.
Big difference to today, where that kind of description would apply to pretty much all of them. Especially when we remember that today’s equivalent of ‘treasurer’ would be ‘accountant’, ‘banker’, ‘financier’ or ‘money-man’.
Without that lot, we might actually have a parliament that represents the people, rather than the money.
